The Neuro Fuzzy is the counterexample to “electronics can’t be durable.” It
has been in continuous production since 2003 — an eternity for a
microprocessor-controlled appliance — and the used market is full of
fifteen-year-old units cooking rice daily for their second or third
household. Zojirushi’s approach is old-fashioned: one proven design, iterated
almost invisibly, with parts support running the entire production life.

The story

Zojirushi has been keeping things at the right temperature since
1918, when it started
as an Osaka vacuum-flask maker; the elephant logo has outlived most of the
appliance industry that grew up around it. The company came to rice cookers
with a thermos-maker’s obsessions — insulation, heat control, gaskets — and
it shows in where the engineering budget went.
